New York Paid Family Leave: 2019 rate changes

Sun Life created a compliance update flyer to help you and your Clients understand the NY PFL rate and benefit increases for the year 2019. According to the update, the rate is increasing from 0.126% to 0.153% of an employee’s gross wages, up to an annual max premium of $107.97. In addition, the benefit will increase from 50% to 55% of the SAWW, and the eight-week maximum benefit duration will increase to 10 weeks.

Sun Life has added a cancer plan to its benefits offering in the U.S., giving patients support for screenings, treatments, recovery needs and everyday expenses. Benefits are paid directly to the employee and can be spent in any way, including on household needs like groceries or bills, or on out-of-pocket medical expenses like copays for health insurance. Sun Life recently announced five winners of the 2018 Team Up Against Diabetes grant program, which provides financial support to nonprofit organizations for supporting diabetes prevention, management and education efforts in their local communities.
