Short video on how to add a benefits administrator to Sun Life Connect

We want to make it easier for you to do business with us. As part of this effort, we are releasing a new video series that walks you through the important tasks you can do on Sun Life Connect*, such as managing eligibility, viewing bills, making payments, submitting claims, verifying Evidence of Insurability and much more. We will feature a new video in each quarterly newsletter.

Sun Life offers W-2 preparation service

Do you need to prepare W-2 information for employees who received disability benefits this year? Sun Life Financial’s W-2 preparation service can help. We can prepare the federal W-2 forms for all active STD and LTD policyholders at no additional cost. If you don’t already have this service and would like to request it, complete the W-2 Tax Reporting Service Agreement below and email it to w2electionchanges@sunlife.com before December 21.

(Completed W-2 Service Agreement forms must be received by December 21 to start or stop W-2 services for the current tax year.)

 
 
Providing a better experience for you and your employees: our plain language initiative

We believe that benefits should be easy to understand – with less jargon and more simple language. That is why we recently launched an initiative to simplify the language and delivery of our correspondence and forms. Starting in January 2019, we will roll out our first phase of the initiative – a new suite of short-term disability letters with these enhancements:

  • clear and caring language
  • white space for easy reading
  • shorter sentences with less jargon

We’re reviewing all of our Client correspondence, including leave, life and long-term disability materials, and we will roll out new versions later in 2019.

 
 
Making conversion, portability and continuation easier for you

Starting January 1, 2019, you are no longer responsible for distributing Sun Life Portability and Continuation Kits. Instead, give your terminated employees an Employer Notice of Conversion and Portability (or Continuation, if applicable), and they can call us for the correct kit. Besides easing your administrative burden, this new process allows terminated employees to ask us questions about their coverage.

 
 
 
Portability rate change

On November 1, 2018, we increased our life insurance portability rates for the first time in 10 years. All affected individuals with ported policies in place were notified by mail. Please discard any old Portability Kits you may have, both printed and electronic, as these include the old rates. If you have a terminated employee who needs a new Portability Kit, please have him or her call our Client Services team at 800-247-6875.

Keep up to date on the latest leave laws by reading Sun Life’s compliance update flyer. The flyer contains a summary of the laws, along with commentary and direction on how they may fit into the administration of your leave program.
